Saturday 19th September 2026, 8am-8pm, Haywards Heath

How far will you go?

Each hour, on the bell, run one 4.167 mile (6.7km) loop between the Potential Personal Training (PPT) gyms in Haywards Heath and Lindfield.

Go as far as you like—run just the first loop or all twelve (50 miles).

Each hour, the only question is: can you do one more?

Miss the bell, and that was your final loop. Your count is your total.

Why a backyard ultra?

A backyard ultra (BYU) is a great way to try out going further with less pressure.

There's no long course to finish or tricky logistics. Just take it one hour and one loop at a time.

Back at base, you can eat, drink, and make any adjustments before you head out again.

In a classic BYU, the loops or 'yards' continue until only one person is left. Our version, finishing after 12 hours, is an intro to the format.

How fast is the pace?

To get back in 60 minutes, the minimum pace is 14:24/mi (8:57/km).

Many BYU participants aim for 45–55 minute loops to have time to rest and reset. That's around 11:00-13:00/mi (6:45-8:00/km).

For reference, you'd reach half marathon around 3 hrs 15 min, and marathon sometime after 6 hrs. But it's totally up to you.

What to expect

An event by the Potential Personal Training and Sussex RunFest teams—supportive, inclusive, and genuinely for everyone. Look forward to:

•  Homemade food and snacks on offer to keep you going (if you came to RunFest, you'll know this is going to be good!)
•  Comfy and well-stocked base to reset after each loop (and to leave all your stuff)
•  No pressure to go a certain distance—stop whenever you're ready
•  Everyone takes home an award that builds loop by loop
•  A few fun twists along the way

Family and friends are welcome to set up at base throughout the day and cheer people on!
